Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Eat Well Be Active group officially launch the Healthy Weight Declaration ‘Partner Pledge’

Food Active are delighted to announce the launch of the Healthy Weight Declaration Partner Pledge, with Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Eat Well Be Active becoming the first partners to pledge their support.

The launch event for the Partner Pledge was held today (Thursday 9th January), where the Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cllr Louise Gittins, members of the Eat Well Be Active[i] group and representatives from Food Active came together to pledge further commitment towards promoting healthy weight across the borough.

The Partner Pledge contains a set of commitments which organisations will pledge to work towards to impact not only on the health and wellbeing of their staff and clients, but also the wider community. The pledge aims to support the actions of West Cheshire Council’s Declaration on Healthy Weight (adopted in February 2019) and strengthens group’s commitment to working with and supporting the Council to promote healthy weight.

Members of the Eat Well Be Active group who have today pledged their support include:

  • Active Cheshire
  • Brio Leisure
  • Chester School Sport Partnership
  • Edsential
  • Ellesmere Port School Sports Partnership
  • Healthbox
  • The Mersey Forest
  • The Welcome Network
  • Vale Royal School Sport Partnership

The Healthy Weight Declaration[ii] was launched by Food Active in 2015 and has now been signed by 21 local authorities across England – ranging from Cumbria all the way down to Devon. To find out all the latest updates on the Declaration, follow this link.

In 2018, it was suggested that adopters of the Declaration would be interested in helping to engage with local partners to help support joint-working and adopting a whole systems approach to promoting healthy weight. The idea of the Partner Pledge was thus born, and Food Active would like to thank members of the Eat Well Be Active group in their ideas and feedback that were integral development of the pledge, commitments and support pack. We are delighted that today they are signing the Partner Pledge as a group at the official launch.
