Event: An integrated approach on tackling Childhood Obesity at municipal level

Event: An integrated approach on tackling Childhood Obesity at municipal level

Food Active has argued for some time that local authorities should take a systems approach to addressing obesity in their communities.

It requires municipal leadership for this approach to be successful. We are therefore pleased to hear about the work being done in Amsterdam to tackle healthy weight and a free event taking place in the New Year. The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands is working with the Centre for Food Policy at City, University of London. Karen den Hertog from Amsterdam will be speaking at the Ambassador’s Residence in London on 29th January about “Amsterdamse aanpak Gezond Gewicht” (healthy weight programme, Amsterdam).

We are pleased that Dr Arif Rajpura, Director of Public Health, Blackpool Council, will be attending and will be able to speak about Food Active’s Local Authority Declaration on Healthy Weight and the approach taken in Blackpool. The evening will be moderated by Professor Corinna Hawkes, Director, Centre for Food Policy, City, University of London and Vice Chair, London Childhood Obesity Taskforce.
