Food Active meets with Ashley Dalton MP to discuss the charity’s healthier weight initiatives in Lancashire

Robin Ireland, Director of Research, was pleased to meet with Ashley Dalton MP for West Lancashire, at her Constituency Office in Skelmersdale this month.

The meeting was arranged as an opportunity to talk about the work of Food Active – part of the Liverpool-based Health Equalities Group charity – in taking a population-based preventative approach to overweight and obesity in West Lancashire and Lancashire.

Discussion focused on Lancashire County Council’s Healthier Places Programme and the work undertaken to support both the county and the district councils to adopt policies which promote healthier weight environments including improving access to healthy, nutritious food, and access to green space. A district healthy weight declaration is one mechanism that can support this approach, this is a new framework that has been produced in consultation with councils and Health and Wellbeing Partnerships across the county, with a number of localities exploring this approach. Further information about the Lancashire Healthier Places Programme is available here.
