Food Active Services for the Holiday Activities and Food Programme

Food Active Services to support the Holiday Activities and Food Programme

Good, nutritious food and nutritional education are key elements of the Holiday Activities and Food programme (hereafter HAF)

HAF is a real opportunity to make a difference, to open up children and young people to different foods, to engage them in interesting activities to broaden their tastes, improve their health and to get them excited about food.

Food Active is delighted to offer providers of the HAF Programme a range of services to support them in meeting food and nutrition education expectations. An overview of these services can be found in our brochure below.

If you have any queries or questions, please get in touch at info@foodactive.org.uk

Good Food for the Holidays Toolkit

The resource is designed to support delivery organisations for the HAF Programme in the provision of healthy, delicious meals and a range of engaging food and nutrition activities over the holidays.

Key themes & attributes:

  • 110-page document with significant navigation embedded to help providers navigate their way through key sections with ease
  • The School Food Standards, how to apply these and opportunities to develop the food offer within your provision further
  • Exploring fussy eating and how to encourage children to try new foods
  • Special dietary requirements, including food allergens, special diets and religious customs
  • Food skills for HAF providers – reading food labels, menu planning and budgeting
  • Meal ideas and recipes for both hot food provision and those who may have little/no kitchen facilities
  • Creative ideas for undertaking the nutrition education element of HAF, plus how to engage with parents and carers on healthy eating
  • A range of supporting resources including an audit and check tool.

The toolkit is available to purchase on the Food Active shop, on a license basis per provider. Discounts for bulk licence purchase are available. For more information, please follow the button below.

Good Food for the Holidays Virtual Training

We are also able to offer virtual training to HAF providers which explores the following topics:

  • A focus on School food standards; what providers are expected to do and practical tips on how to meet these standards, including meal/menu ideas.
  • Supporting fussy eaters
  • Catering for special diets
  • Engaging parents and carers in food
  • Ideas generation for nutrition education

This training has been successfully piloted in Liverpool ahead of summer 2021, training 80 providers involved in the city’s HAF programme

This 2.5-hour training session is delivered virtually via Zoom and is ideal for providers of HAF who have limited experience in providing healthy food and drink. The training consists of a PowerPoint presentation and a range of polls, activities and discussion points.

Price per session starts at £450 plus VAT for up to 30 participants, which includes registration management, pre-event communication with delegates, course delivery, a certificate of attendance and a short evaluation report of the training.

Please note that we can offer discounts on purchases of the Good Food for the Holidays toolkit for coordinators who commission the training.
