This week we welcomed leading experts to discuss the ongoing consultation to restrictions to less healthy food and drink by price and placement.

The meeting was held in response to the publication of the Department of Health and Social Care’s consultation to restrict promotions of less healthy food and drink by price and place. The consultation comes as part of a series of consultations outlined in the Childhood Obesity Plan, Chapter 2 published in June 2018. The meeting took place directly after the Food Active bi-annual network meeting and attendees included public health leads from 14 local authorities in the North West.

The meeting was kindly chaired by Barbara Crowther, Co-ordinator of the Children’s Food Campaign. Speakers included Dan Parker (Living Loud/Veg Power), Malcolm Clark (Cancer Research UK) and Caroline Cerny (Obesity Health Alliance) to present the evidence and specific areas for consideration in the consultation.

We will use the evidence presented and discussions from the meeting to inform our official response to the consultation (deadline 6th April), which will be shared across the Food Active network in the North West to encourage as many responses as possible.
