12 Aug 2020 Funding granted to deliver a virtual cooking course for male carers in Liverpool
We are excited to announce we have been granted to co-deliver a virtual cooking course for male carers, in partnership with the Liverpool Carers Centre and Local Solutions.
We have been granted funding from the LCRCares COVID-19 Community Support Fund, coordinated by the Liverpool Combined Authority Region Metro Mayor Steve Rotherham and the Community Foundation for Merseyside. The fund has been set up to raise vital funds for community organisations who are working to support the most vulnerable in our society during the COVID-19 crisis. The money raised will be distributed to local organisations who are providing essential support to communities.
This project will support male, unpaid carers in Liverpool through supply of healthy food and virtual cooking sessions to improve cooking skills and diet.
Due to Covid-19, carers are continuing to shield for a range of reasons including their age, underlying health conditions and health conditions of the person they care for. Evidence shows that access to healthy food and quality of diet has been affected during the lockdown period, whilst men diagnosed with Covid-19 are at greater risk of poorer health outcomes. This project will provide the key ingredients and equipment needed to make healthy, low-cost meals at home, followed by a live cook-a-long session (hosted via Zoom) with information on food skills and key nutrition messages. This will support kitchen confidence and support healthier eating habits.
Last year we have delivered a successful face to face 6 week cooking course for older male carers with support from and hosted by the Liverpool Carers Centre, so are building on an already well established partnership.
Thank you to our funders at the LCR Cares COVID-19 Fund, we are really excited to get started on the project in the next coming months.
