The government have announced plans to achieve a ‘Good Food Cycle’ that brings the entire food system together to build a future where good food is accessible to everyone. A future where every child, every family, and every community can access healthy, affordable, and proudly British food. 

The government have outlined ten priority outcomes to achieve “a healthier, more affordable, sustainable and resilient 21st century UK food system that grows the economy, feeds the nation, nourishes people, and protects the environment and climate, now and in the future”.

The ten outcomes are grouped in the following themes:

• Healthier and more affordable food
• Good growth
• Sustainable and resilient supply
• Vibrant food cultures

We are pleased to see reference to the importance of promoting healthier, affordable food environments to improve food security and health, as well as the importance of supporting work at a local and regional level delivered by local councils, strategic authorities, local food partnerships, civil society and citizen groups.
