The framework brings together ten policy areas across three domains: food environment, food system and behavior change communication. The framework is accompanied by a regularly updated database, providing an extensive overview of implemented policy actions from around the world to promote healthy diets and reduce obesity.
The Healthy Weight Declaration has been included in the the ‘H’ Framework, entailing examples of policies which ‘Harness the food supply chains and actions across sectors to ensure coherence with health‘. The declaration is designed to support local government to exercise their responsibility in developing, implementing and enforcing policies that promote healthy weight.
A whole-systems approach is key to improving the health of our populations and tackling the rising tide of non-communicable diseases, such as obesity, poor dental health and type 2 diabetes. A local authority level commitment, such as the Food Active Declaration on Healthy Weight, encompassing planning, public health, environmental health, leisure and recreation, has the scope to significantly impact on local populations. 8 local authorities have now signed the declaration, with more to follow into 2018.View the policy database update here
