01 Oct 2021 Planning for Healthy Food Environments Symposium 2021
Healthier Place, Healthier Future’s Debut Symposium on Planning, Food and Health
The ‘Healthier Place, Healthier Future’ (HPHF) Childhood Obesity Trailblazer gives the opportunity for local authorities to support and test strategies that support healthy weights and reduce levels of children living with obesity. The project takes a systemwide approach, harnessing the power of four levers: system leadership, business engagement and support, positive planning possibilities, and community-led action through social movements.

How can Planners Support Healthier Spaces?
Healthier Place, Healthier Future collabored with the national food and farming charity, Sustain, for the ‘Planning for Healthy Food Environments’ Conference on the 28th of September 2021.
The ‘Planning for Healthy Food Environments’ online symposium offered the opportunity to hear from inspiring case studies that contribute towards planning for a good food environment. The event provoked thought about how to improve the food environment when building new developments and was aimed at planners and other relevant stakeholders from the Pennine districts and beyond, who are interested in the intersection between planning and health. Discussions and case studies will be compiled and published following the event. Speakers at the event worked in the field of food mapping, the good food economy, community growing & farming and planning. To stay up to date with HPHF, follow @HealthierPlace on Twitter.
