The HPHF, which is one of five trailblazers funded by the Department of Health and Social Care, is a three-year programme working with councillors, planners, businesses and communities across Pennine Lancashire to tackle the drivers of obesity and promote healthy weight.eH
The Masterclass consisted of a presentation on the re-branded Recipe 4 Health award, as well as healthier catering suggestions and allergen awareness. Businesses took part in a taste test challenge, comparing lower fat and/or lower salt and sugar versions of condiments found in food outlets such as ketchup, mayonnaise and soy sauce, as well as a sugar cube activity, where businesses were challenged to guess how much sugar were in popular fizzy drinks.
Businesses were invited to reflect on their current practices and make a pledge to make their food healthier and more sustainable. Pledges included using lower fat sauces, introducing sugar free drinks and offering free fruit to all customers. To close the event, businesses were awarded with the Bronze Recipe 4 Health award and encouraged to apply for the silver and/or gold award.
The masterclass followed a similar session delivered in Blackburn with Darwen last year, also delivered as part of the HPHF programme.
