As part of the Declaration, we have developed a range of resources to help guide local authorities through the process. This includes presentations at relevant board meetings or steering groups, workshop resources, departmental briefings, communications support and much more.
We also offer a range of free to access resources, linked below, to share case studies and good practice across the country as well as the evidence base underpinning the Declaration. These can be accessed towards the bottom of this page.

The HWD support pack (third edition) provides an introduction to the HWD for local authorities, including a short history and guidance on the adoption process.

Tools to engage with wider system partners, including 3rd sector and private sector businesses, through the Partner Pledge

The Partner Pledge has been co-developed with Cheshire West and Chester Council and their Eat Well, Be Active group. The pledge is a commitment that partner organisations can make to support their local authority’s Healthy Weight Declaration. You can read more about the Partner Pledge here.

Tools to engage schools through the Pledge for a Healthy and Active Future

The Schools’ Pledge is designed to support system-wide approaches to healthier weight, schools will be pledging to support their local authority’s Healthy Weight Declaration, whilst working towards a set of 12 commitments. You can read more about the Partner Pledge here.

NHS Healthy Weight Declaration

The NHS Declaration provides a mechanism for organisations to signal their commitment and demonstrate leadership in promoting healthy weight to patients, staff, visitors and the wider community. For more information, click here.

Briefing series

A range of briefings for different stakeholders including Elected members, Transport, Environmental Health, Children’s Services and more to make the case for adopting the Local Government Declaration on Healthy Weight

A PowerPoint presentation providing an overview of the background of the Declaration, case studies, impact and overview of the available resources.

Communication guidelines

The communication guidelines consider the negative impact of weight stigma and provide clear do’s and don’ts for internal and external comms team.

Launch event guide

Guidance to support local authorities plan out their launch event, including suggested agenda, promotional resources and template press releases.

Networking and sharing best practice

We host an online platform of over 50 local authorities currently engaged in the Declaration, to facilitate networking opportunities, asking questions and sharing learning and experiences across the country.

Learning events

In December we host our HWD Annual Networking and Learning Event to share best practice and provide further networking opportunities for local authorities.
